Electoral College

I hate the Electoral College. Once again the vote of a *huge* number of American citizens were disregarded because they live in an area where more of their neighbors voted for the other guy. (And yes, I realize that essentially that's what is supposed to happen on a national level, but I don't like it functioning on a state level. Because that usually leads to most people in most states being ignored while attention is focused on the so-called "swing states". This year's campaign was a little different because the primary races ran so long.)

Term Limits

Just say 'No'!

Sorry. '80s flashback. A rising crime rate, recession, jobs leaving the area, an enduring drought and The mayor has decided that 'term limits are the most important issue facing our community.' So, I say Just Say No! to extending term limits.

He conviently ignores the reasons we imposed term limits in the first place. (Can you say corruption? Special interests? I thought you could.) Ugh. The guy's an idiot.

Presidential Politics

I consider myself an intelligent person. I try to make informed, thoughtful decisions about important issues like choosing candidates for a position, selecting organizations to receive my donations, voting on issues. But I can't find it within myself to actually watch tonight's debate. It's drifting in and out of my consciousness. Although, to be fair to myself, I decided who to vote for some time ago. So the only real purpose to watching the debate is in the hope of ammunition against the other guy.

7 1/2 lifelong learning habits

Of the 7 1/2 lifelong learning habits #2 - Accepting responsibility for your own learning is probably the easiest for me. My parents say I've always been a very responsible person and I've always been on the curious side. So while I value the efforts of others to teach me, ultimately it's my responsibility to "get it".

#3 - Viewing problems as challenges has got to be the hardest for me. I'm a pessimist (or a realist). So while a problem doesn't automatically translate as crisis, neither am I likely to view it as something positive.
